Hardy wants me to make some grape wine for him, think I will try it.
Thursday September 29
A rainy day and heavy S. wind, a gale on the lake. Got milk at Henry’s. Dug two pails potatoes before rain. Rain pretty steady all day. Starlight to-night but lots of lighting away to the northward.
Picked tomatoes all of the vines at barn, and pulled lot of beans off the stalks, to be shelled later on.
Boiled pork and cabbage for dinner.
At Henry’s this evening.
Have now about 40 qts of canned and bottled fruit.
Mrs. Smalley sent word that she had some ripe tomatoes for me, so I must get them in morning if it don’t rain.
Friday September 30
10pm Sunshine, clouds, rain and two tearing old gales from W. or N.W. Hard wind all day.
Henry’s cows ran away this morning. Great Circus, all but the tent.
Got half bushel ripe tomatoes at Smalley’s, helped Aunt Em and Clara to churn.
Got buttermilk and sweet corn.
Dug a few potatoes, put some green tomatoes down cellar, and pulled off a lot of beans.
At Farmer’s this evening.
Amos Beans boy 2 ½ years old very sick.
Took supper with Fred. He came up with lantern to head off doctor for Amos’ boy.
My back is paining lots in the two days.
Nearly as bad as it was last spring.
