Books About Bullying ... includes picture books, chapter books and readings for older students. This list includes books found at the SCS G. Alfred Mercaldo Library and some not housed at SCS.

Internet Sites

BAM ... "Body And Mind", a site for kids on getting along with others. Provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Bullying.Org ... this site helps in dealing with bullying.
Center for Safe and Responsible Internet Use ... resources to help children when using the Internet and other information technologies.
Cyberbullying ... resources to identify and help with reducing deliberate hostile behavior online, provided by Bullying.Org of Canada.
McGruff.Org ... child safety including a section on bullying for kids.
Operation Respect: Don't Laugh at Me ... a site dedicated to creating a safe, caring and respectful environment for children. Includes resources for grades 2-5 and 6-8.
Pacer Center's Kids Against Bullying ... games, contests, and thoughts about bullying for kids and by kids.
Ryan Patrick Halligan Story ... the story of an 8th grade boy's death and the bullying that led to his suicide in Essex, Vermont. Included are references to the Vermont Bully Prevention Law, Internet safety suggestions, and suicide prevention information.
Tolerance.Org ... a web project of the Southern Poverty Law Center. Includes links for Kids, Teens, Parents and Teachers.
Violence Resources ... a few web sites addressing school violence including bullying.

Here are Basic Suggestions on Dealing With Cyber Bullying

Guard your contact information.

Don’t send a message when you’re angry.

If you are being harassed, do not reply. Log out. Immediately tell an adult.

Save harassing messages and forward them to you Internet Service Provider (ISP).

If bullying includes physical threats, notify police. Do not tamper with anything that may serve as evidence in a police report. Leave the computer as it is, and do not shut it down. This will maintain the integrity of the message, time/date stamps, etc.

Talk about the issue. Kids need to know what is appropriate and not appropriate as well as that there is help available to them.

Kids being bullied are not alone.
