Activities Developed by Teachers With Information Technology

Title French Family Tree (Spring, 2003)
Grades 7th Grade
Teacher(s) Sharon Fowler (Sharon no longer works at SCS)
Resources KidspirationÒ, computer lab
Time Spent Four 40-minute classes during one week
Setting Classroom and computer lab time
Abstract Students were asked to create a family tree using a 30 day drill version of KidspirationÒ software while labeling the tree with French terms.  Each family member included a short sentence in French describing the person and a picture representing something unique about them.  On the last day, students presented their family tree to the class in French.
Positive Aspects
  • Good reinforcement of French family vocabulary.

  • Great opportunity for students to share personal information in French.
Challenging Aspects (or "When I do this again ...") Will we always have this program available to us??  The students truly enjoyed this activity and I would therefore like to continue using KidspirationÒ in the future.
