Kindergarten
students are enjoying our new singing and movement activities. They
are discovering the difference between their speaking and singing voices, and
practicing concepts including fast/slow, loud/soft, and high/low.
Students are creating 4-beat patterns, using quarter and eighth notes, as well as quarter
rests. We have added the G-clef (Treble clef) and time signature to our
patterns. Each child creates a pack of index cards, adding to them each time a
new note is introduced. These packs will follow students through second grade.

Kindergarten, first and second graders have started our international dance unit. Using the Phyllis Weikart sequential dance approach, we are learning many dances from around the world. Working in small groups, students have started creating their own dances.
The Rainbow Team is studying India. Students from this team, along with 3rd graders from the Discover Team, will present a live television show to our community and their schools on December 11, 2002.
Working across the Chittenden South Supervisory Union and with the Regional Educational Technology Network, music teachers in Charlotte, Hinesburg, and Shelburne will create and implement a multi-cultural dance program throughout the 2002-2003 school year. Students in grades K-5 will present dances and information about the countries studied. Each class' performance will be cablecast live on RETN (Regional Educational Technology Network) to the participating schools and their communities. Participating classes will be connected via telephone to the originating class for Q&A. This program will be integrated with classroom teachers and their curricula.
