Diana
Burritt, K-2 Music Educator at the Shelburne Community School, and David
Cranmer, Production Coordinator at Regional
Education Technology Network (RETN) have been
selected to present at the Florida Educational
Technology Conference, to be held in Orlando, from March 6-8, 2002.
Their presentation, entitled, "You
Did THAT in Music Class?" will highlight, "The
Beethoven Project," developed by Diana. A Music Enrichment
Group of K-6 students made an interactive television program on,
"The Life and Music of Beethoven," for their winter project,
which was shown throughout the District.
Students selected their roles as researchers,
reporters, or production crew. Using the Internet as a research
tool, they each developed their own presentations. Working with RETN
(Regional Educational Television Network), they were able to create and
produce their own show. The program was shown live on the cable
system with classrooms from two other schools participating by phone.

The kindergarten students are
busy working in their Music Detective Notebooks. They are writing the rhythms to
rhythms as they are clapped. Parents will try to "decode" the secret rhythm patterns when completed! Students
will also have the opportunity to create their own 4-beat patterns, which
will include the treble clef, time signature, bar lines, and double-bar
lines. Throughout the year, all students have the opportunity to study a variety of composers. Through guided Internet use, students will research their lives, as well as listen to sound files of their music. Towards
the end of January, we will begin study of Medieval composers and their
music. We will listen to, "Song of the Unicorn," by
