Beethoven “Pop-Up” facts

1.  Ludwig van Beethoven was born on December 16, 1770, in Bonn, Germany.

2. He was so small when he began to play the clavier; he had to stand on a stool.

3. Ludwig was not allowed to play or have friends because he had to practice all the time.

4. His Dad wanted Ludwig to be like Mozart, and earn a lot of money as a child.

5. If Ludwig was messing around at the piano, his Dad would box his ears.

6. Ludwig’s first concert was on March 26th, 1778.  He was only seven years old.

7. Beethoven only went to school until he was 11.  Because of this, addition and multiplication were very hard for him.

8. When he was 17 years old, Ludwig traveled to Germany to study with Mozart.

9. Beethoven’s funniest time, to me, was when he forgot to put his clothes on.  He sometimes forgot to eat.

10. Beethoven’s favorite food was bread soup.  His favorite hero was Napoleon.

11. Beethoven began losing his hearing when he was in his early twenties.

12. Ludwig was offered many things to help with his deafness, none of which worked.

13.  One of these included pouring warm milk and ground nuts in his ears.

14. During Beethoven’s life, Vienna, Austria was a busy city, with over 200,000 people.  This included over 6000 pianists!

15. Ludwig van Beethoven died on March 26, 1827, in Vienna, Austria.

16. Over 10,000 mourners attended his funeral.  It took over an hour and a half to walk one block to the church.
