Shelter

Sources

There are many sources for shelter, you can live in nature, or in a man-made building. Our first ancestors used nature to live by, most of them living in caves or valleys. People then moved up to huts, or grass tents. Soon people were living in log cabins, then finally houses or apartments like ours. Most of the time shelter is made from wood, concrete, or bricks.

Threats

There are multiple threats to shelter, natural disasters, poverty, lack of room. Then there are problems like the ones I am focusing on, pollution and land contamination. I am focusing on pollution and land contamination. What I mean by pollution is when the air water or land gets so polluted that people are in danger by living near it. The case study I will be focusing on is Love Canal, an excellent example of a place where the water gets too polluted to live near (EPA).

Solutions

There are many solutions to pollution like this. One of them is already made. President Jimmy Carter created a fund called the Superfund to help protect areas like the Love Canal which are to polluted to be lived near. The Superfund cleans area like this up, and makes them able to be lived on again. Another is just that people need to care more, and be more careful. If companies didn't dump their waste, or people traveled around by bus or train, the world would be much less polluted (EPA).
