Sources |
Pesticides are chemical substances that farmers spread on their crops, and stores spray onto their food before they're sold. They are used to protect the food from pests and other bugs that could hurt them. Pesticides are also used to make crops and fruits and vegetables look better in the stores. Therefore people will be deceived into buying their crops thinking they are healthier (Paladino, 7).
Threats |
Pesticides are a big threat to the Earth. When pesticides are sprayed they travel throughout the world by wind currents, and then get mixed in with our water and food supply. Many animals die from this, and humans also get very sick, because they eat and drink the contaminated food and water, and then the pesticides get into their bloodstream and organs. (Paladino,13).
Solutions |
The largest solution that the world has brought up, is getting rid of pesticides altogether. But, the fact of "would we really be able to live without them" came up. But eliminating pesticides would be a difficult, if not impossible, thing to do. But, if you are interested in doing something to help, try making a compost pile in your backyard. Or grow organic food, or plant wildflowers, that will attract pesticides away from humans.
