Air and Nuclear Weapons |

by Sam W.
Air is the product of our atmosphere and is kept breathable by our trees, which take in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) which humans cannot breath on its own and put out Oxygen (O2) which humans need to breathe to distribute oxygen to various parts of their bodies so they can live their lives. Humans can survive three minutes without any air, after this time a normal human would not have enough oxygen to supply the brain and the brain and body would shut down, causing first unconsciousness, then, death. Therefore, humans need air and, when it is polluted or poisoned will cause them great harm or death by ways other than suffocation (see case study).

My threat to air is Nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons were pioneered in the of the 20th century by men like J. Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenhemier and renowned genius Albert Einstein were two of the main contributors to the creation of the nuclear bomb in the U.S. Nuclear weapons affect air through the fact that anything that comes in contact with them will be affected by radiation poisoning, which can relate in death or other serious conditions. Shown below are the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki (See real life examples) named "Little Boy" and "Fat Man"

Solutions
There are many solutions to Nuclear war threats, force a mandatory destruction of all nuclear weapons, but then who could say the enforcing countries, or last countries to do so wouldn't try to take over the world? Another way to prevent the threat of nuclear war or nuclear weapons related deaths would be to sign a treaty with all countries, outlawing the production of nuclear weapons. Although this would not destroy all nuclear weapons it would do two things 1)leave countries with aging weapons that become less and less potent as time goes on. or 2) leave countries time to think up more advanced weapons that would lead to less civilian casualties and make wars shorter and have only the armies fighting instead of the countrie's inhabitants.
