Shelter is important because it is one of the four main basic human needs, Shelter, Food, Water, and Air. If you did not have shelter then many people in the world would be dying from many natural occurrences. If you lived in a northern part of the world you would get very cold and wet without a shelter because of the harsh climate. But if you lived in a southern or central part of the world you would need a different type of shelter to cover you from the sun and heat.
Poverty can be defined as many things. In the U.S.A. if you don’t
have an automobile then you may not be living decently and would consider
your-self poor if you didn’t have one, but if you lived in an
non-industrial country you would consider a car as a royal luxury and it
would not be common to see someone driving an automobile. (Danzinger, 1) The
definitions of poverty from country to country are very different which make
it hard to tell how many people are poor around the world (Danzinger, 1). It
is estimated that in the mid 1990’s more than 1 billion people, around a
fifth of the worlds population, were so poor that their lives were
endangered. (Danzinger, 1) The most widespread and severe poverty occurred
in those nations with few resources or undeveloped ones, sometimes called
the developing nations. (Danzinger, 1)
Many thing are being done to prevent poverty and the war
going on in Ireland. Many people are being arrested, the government gives back
to the community, churches are doing street marches for peace and more police
and riot controllers are being distributed through out Ireland and Northern
Ireland (Hewitt,52-58). In Belfast, Northern Ireland a large wall was built to
keep fighting and rioting under control for the Catholics and Protestants
(Hewitt, 54). The wall is similar to the Berlin wall, it was made to divide two
enemy’s. It is about 25-30 feet high and about 30 feet wide (Hewitt, 54). At
the 15 foot high marker there are rolls of barbed – wire (Hewitt,54).
