Sources

A source to having shelter would be having a good childhood. This is because most of the people who are homeless right now were raised in bad surroundings, or they were physically or sexually abused when they were growing up. So, if kids have happy, healthy and educational childhoods then they will probably have a better chance of having shelter when they grow up and need to find jobs to support themselves.

Threats to Shelter

In my opinion, poverty is the biggest threat of all to shelter. So many people are considered poor. If a family of four has an income of 12,092 dollars or less a year, then they are considered poor (Davis). " 'I sew front pockets,' Felina says of her work, at the Reltoc Manufacturing Company...where she works with 100 other workers who make men's cotton pants.

Ms. Craft, who is 27 years old, earns the federal minimum of $3.35 per hour. She takes home less than 100 dollars a week to the trailer home where she lives with her two young daughters..." (Davis).

Solutions

One of the main causes of poverty is low income. That is a big source to a lot of homelessness. Some solutions that researchers found to having a nice, safe home when they grow up were:

Stay in high school and successfully complete it
Once you are an adult, get married, and stay married. Even if that means going through a couple marriages!
Stay employed, even if you are one of the working poor (Hyde)
