Very warm + pleasant.
All here and at work on silo. Got bottom cemented and one more side (the third) nearly boarded. Chet + Cap went to city p.m. I sawed + split wood, made beds, pulled cabbage, beet +turnips for light house and got supper around 8 p.m.
Cap has gone to station 9.00 p.m. + Chet has vanished somewhere.
Geo Summer brought in a dozen very large Bull-heads this noon as a present for Cap for privilege of digging worms.
Am feeling pretty tired to night and can’t help thinking of some of the good old times I used to have around home years ago on such a fine moonlight night like this.
Mailed a letter to C. D. B. Milton, Vt. care of A. M. Sibley.

Pleasant
Chet and I here all day.
He went to P.O. on horseback. Got a letter, and in it a note from Cash for me.
I called on Mr. Parker. Clipped his hair and whiskers and he clipped my hair. He gave me a nice Hubbard squash and showed me his squash bed and two acre lot witch he thinks would make a nice garden. Cows in my garden again last night and churned up about 50 cabbages and cauliflower

Goodspeed’s baby died about 4 P.M.yesterday, funeral to-morrow at 2 P.M.
Circus with calves this morning + put wire fence out in lake.
Chet went over to Station at 4.20 P.M., + has just yet back, 8.20. He took over a lot of stuff for them. Cap rather wanted me to go over for a few days and let family come over here, but tell the truth I feel afraid of the responsibility not being at all acquainted with it.

Funeral of Goodspeeds baby.
A badly broken day and not much accomplished except by Cap + Chet who drew 2 loads of fodder while I staid at Barstow’s. After the funeral Hardy came over after milk this evening .

Cap Chet + I cut ensilage + drew corn, 4 loads.
Geo. Sumner helped us this P.M. Husked about 10 bu. of corn I guess out of the fodder.
Mr. Barstow called this evening.
We traced up corn after supper.
Going to be a cold night again.

Another cold windy day
All here. + Geo Summer too. Drawing corn + cutting ensilage 4 loads. Picked off a big pile of ears about 60 bushel we think.
G. Goodspeed’s father called to see the cutter. I made another door for silo.
Summer squash for dinner just picked Stirred up bread again to- night. Screech owl around again to-night. Chet drew potatoes for Sid Tatro. Have hustled every much since 5 this morning, now 9. P.M.

Thrashed piece + oats fair day. All here. Cut ensilage. Husked corn and did nearly everything. Finished up a good week's work in pretty good shape. Heard there was going to be a dance at Mose Besettes old place. Chet + I went up but no dance.

Cap went to Station last night.

He went duck hunting. No luck
I looked over a lot of my things and straightened them out a little.
We went over to Hardys this evening and had very pleasant times Orson Byer were there part of the time Hardy told stories of runaways till about 10 o clock and I haven’t laughed so much for 6 months.

All here. Fair day. Big frost last night. Froze everything
Tues 11
All here. Cut a little ensilage. Husked corn A.M. Picked apples P.M. I baked bread again. Mr. Barstow called this eve, Wind blowing very hard all day, Finished drying all the early potatoes, Frost killed all the tomatoes.
Wed 12
Cold + windy all day. All here. Cap went to station this morning but got back for dinner. Frank Hines here all day. He and Chet put door on back of barn and did other work there. Cap helped when he got back. I finished peeling onions the P.M. Cap is expecting coal at station and must be there if wind don’t blow, but it blows tonight, all right. Got letter from Ed Monday with money order for $1.60 and description of my bundle of fish poles lost on R.R. in Aug. Swept out and set the room to rights.

All here. Windy A.M. still P.M. Cap went to station at noon and Chet and I went to city- I saw a parade of 3rd Regt. VT Calvary. Picked apples A.M. Pleasant day I had a good time.

Rainy and cloudy. All here. Wind blows all the time hard. Cap helped get dinner. Chet and I went over to Porter's and Hardy's, Little Jim and Dixon were there.

Awful cold and windy. Hines here, worked on barn. All here as usual. Mr. Barstow and Henry Besett called in evening.
Tues 18
Fair day. All here. Hines also in P.M. Cap and Barstow went to city and got load of lumber about 10 A.M. and got home about 5 P.M. Cap and Chet went to station this morning. Put the hen-house in position for final adjustment. I picked apples all day. 3 bbls and 2 bushels and cleaned of 8 old trees.
Wed 19
Rainy all day. All here and Hines too putting new doors in barn back of horses. Thrashed barley A.M. and fanned barley oats and beans P.M. Chet and I got mill at Young’s. Cap has sick head-ache tonight and ate no supper. I sent letter to Leon Ingram to office by Hines.
Thurs 20
Rain some Cloudy some and rain some. All here. Chet and I got 2 loads of corn off the corn patch for Willard. Chet drew them up to him and went to intervale. I got load of hay for Goodspeed. Cap worked on hen-house. Hines not here. Today went to city. Had dinner at 1:20 P.M. All worked on hen-coop this P.M. Cap and Chet gone to station. left here at 6 P.M. Not here yet 9:30. I went up to Barstow’s an hour got some yeast and came home and mixed bread, ate my supper and peeled onions as long as could see, and now am going to bed. We hurried to get the coop done for Goodspeed to bring his hens down but he went away P.M. and did not get home soon enough. Cap and Chet went away before supper so I had to get supper only for myself and I feel glad for it for I am feeling pretty tired.
Fri 21
Warm but cloudy all day. All here. Hines also. Working on hen-coop. Door and windows all in. Looks first rate. Chet got a new pig. He and Chet stayed at station last night, and got home about 7 o-clock this mng. I was sick all night and to-day. Baked bread, didn’t get done in time for supper. Very slow to rise. Must fix my old bbl for raising bread and then I can get through with bread making the same day. We got in the buckwheat and threshed it this P.M. 2 loads. That finishes up another job that we have been anxious to complete, and the last of the threshing except for other people. Henry Thayer was here this A.M. an hour or so, He was out duck-hunting. I fixed front door of stove and now I can shut stove tight and keep little fire a long time. Sid Tatro called this eve. Ought to write to Mary. Must try and do so next Sunday, I guess, if the Captain don’t get left over here as he did last.

All here and Hines also. Feeling better to-day. Cleaned up the buckwheat. Warm and pleasant. Cap started for station to night but wind came up and he had to come back. Just as Chet and I were eating supper. Expected to go to a party tonight but the wind is all wrong. confound the luck.

Breezy all day. But cloudy and comfortable.
Cap and Chet went to station this morning after breakfast, and had just returned at 7. P.M.
George Summer and Amos Bean called. George shot our red squirrel, and I didn’t like it a bit.
Went up street after noon called on Henry but he was away and I went over to Hines, took dinner there, and had some fine sweet potatoes; Quiet a rarity. Looked over some books and magazines on astrology, and had a very pleasant time.
We're hoping we would all go home early enough as Chet and I could make a call this evening but I guess it will have to be given up like many every other project that we plan, like this evening the wind has gone down and the lake is almost still though at noon it fairly boiled.

Tore out the pantry it raised the devil generally. I picked apples.

A fair day, windy, all here and Hines also.
In the P.M.found the big chisel back of the sheathing where I lost it.
Sifted a lot of corn meal for myself + also for the lighthouse. It had begun to heat a little. Moved the old swing door in dining room out to edge of piazza to make room for bedrooms off the dining room.
Finished picking apples to-day except one tree for jelly.
Chet and I shot a skunk last evening.
Chet and Cap thought they saw lighthouse signal for help at 7 pm and so off they went. They are expecting coal for that station and though the wind blows pretty hard now 8 pm it may go down before morning and then they will stay probably till coal comes.
Called on Mr. and Mrs. Barstow this eve for about an hour. They were feeling quite lonely as Goodspeed and wife went to Grand Isle yesterday expecting to stay all winter.

Cloudy all day showers in P.M
Hines and I here to day.
Cap and Chet came over about 9 A.M and took Frank and Dixon and went back to fix Watkins' blind. They got back at 1:30 P.M.
Hines and I put on lath this P.M. Had to pull off a lot as usual of course. Counted 123 duck in a flock half way over to the “Head.”
Jim Sumner finished digging the cistern to 4 ft-deep.
Grandpa Sibly came over from Grand Isle about 4:30 P.M and helped me do the chores. I wrote a letter for him for Ed Sibly to let him know of his safe arrival. Chet came home alone this eve leaving Cap at-lighthouse.

Hines not here to-day
Grandpa and Chet started for Station via the point but Cap came over and they all came home to
dinner.
I put on lathe this P.M + Chet and Grandpa drew corn. Lathed in the pantry after supper. Cap putting
on back plaster. Grandpa lost his knife but found it again alright.

Coal came to station.
Hines here all day. Cap and Grandpa went to city. Grandpa gone to No. Fairfax Farnum called in
evening. Coins.

All here except Hines
Put tarred paper on front side of barn and roof of hen coop.
Chet and I started for party but for the third time got fooled out of it. One of the finest moon lit nights ever known on earth. Letters form Agt. and Shelburne and from L.E. Ingram.

Pleasant morning cloudy rest of day.
Chets went to station this morning and left at 2 P.M
I did up my work, watched cows and visited with Porter and showed him my coins and went up to Hines and took dinner. Got an apple pie and live ducks and came home about 6 P.M. dressed ducks and now am ready to go to bed.
Mon 31
Cold and windy. All here and Hines also.
Put paper in barn and hencoop and tore off sheathing and hung door up stairs and put ceiling and lath on bedroom.
Cooked one duck for dinner and it was pretty good for a change.
Sumner still working on the cistern back of the house.
Barstow called after Chet and I had gone to bed.
