Sat Nov. 1 At Station
Awoke at 6:20 and started for station at 6:30. Wind very easy from N. Wind went down off Hall’s Pt. + had to row the rest of the way.
Wind very easy all day.
Chet + Ruth came ashore.
Sun Nov 2. At Station.
Did up my washing + took a bath.

Mon Nov 3. At Station
Hard wind from S. gale in fact.
Chet came to see how I was but couldn’t land. He nearly capsized between the two points coming ashore, + had to drop sail and throw out anchor.
Tue Nov 4 Came Home.
Wind S all around but easy. Chet came with coal stove about 1:30 PM. I came ashore soon afterwards.
Sailed to pass, rowed up 25 poles + sailed to Hall's, + rowed home.
Wind easy all day.
In evening called at Raytee's + Jones. Jones + wife gone. Sadie had company. I held lantern for Farnum to load wood. Stopped at Goodspeed’s + heard that Jones + P each had cow killed on R.R. Friday A.M. I heard whistle tooting at the time. Jones’ was a pet heifer and quite valuable. Haven’t seen Violet since I came ashore. Hope she hasn’t deserted me
Looks like rain in a couple of days.
Quite warm + pleasant all day.
Wed. Nov 5
Very Pleasant +warm all day. Wind So. Fresh on the lake but not on the bay. Painted on inside and top rail of Watkins boat quite a job too.
Wheeled up flood wood. Got hot dinner and washed up all the dishes.
Jones this evening. Fixed locks on three doors. Sending Irving his letter. Took supper there. Gave me a pail of skim milk.

Sat Nov 8 Went to L-H
Mr Parker + Geo come down + went over to station with me. Chet came back with them + went to Colchester. A lovely day warm + pleasant +no wind.
Have got all my vegetables under cover except a few small cabbages.
Sunday Nov 9 Came ashore
Pleasant. Wind S. + fresh.
Chet + Ruth come to Station with sewing machine + groceries. I started for home at sundown.
Light breeze to island. Chet left sail there. I got it. Had to row all the way home. Bay still as a pan of milk, Big fire on Adirondack Mts. tonight + Jones this evening.

Monday Nov 10 1902
Cold day.
Wind S A.M. but NW or N in P.M.
Went to city for Jones and myself.
Drove Nancy.
Butter Paper for Jones.
Stovepipe + Rubber cement for Chet. Bbl crackers + sundries to myself. Took breakfast, dinner + Supper at Jones.
Set 3 lights glass for Jones + have a little more to do yet.
Jones gave me a lump of butter. Rec'd vouchers to sign for check to pay for fenders.
Sun Nov 11
Pleasant day, Lt. N wind.
Went to Station. Found them washing, Carried stovepipes butter milk + mail. Took dinner. Chet + I came to W. Pt + got his duck boat, + then we set up stove in sitting room. Started for home at 4 o’clock rowed to pass, and rowed and sailed rest of the way. Came over in an hour + ten minutes. Called at Raytee's this evening, Mrs. Tatro was there. She + Sid have had a row. A cold day. Thermometer at freezing and below all day.
Warmer this evening and no wind.
Wed. Nov. 12. 1902
9.PM Gales N. & S with rain all day
Haven’t accomplished much to-day. Wet + cold in the house as well as out of it.
Worked a while on the old oak tree on the beach. Mended overalls, partly.
Had gray squirrel for supper with turnip and fried cabbage + onions.
Wind howling loudly to-night + raining. My black kitten sits on my shoulders as I write. Examined sample of Manson’s roofing paper, a combination of heavy tarred paper covered by a thin layer of asbestos.
Thurs. Nov. 13.
N. Gale. A.M + S. Gale P.M. with rain.
Thermometer at freezing nearly all day. Repaired foundation of the hatchway + worked a little on Watkin’s boat. Jones this evening took supper.
Fri. Nov. 14.
Warm + foggy. Went to station at 11:30.
Rowed to pass, light S.W. wind. Sailed to station found folks well. Bro’t 5 letters to mail. Saw Hi + Bellrose at Island.
Henry got shot Sunday evening coming away from duck blind. Sailed from station to island + from pass to home. Dr. Sam called a few minutes. Out on vacation a few days. Hall + wife came out that P.M.
Raytee's + Sam’s this evening. Gave Sam his first lesson in telegraphy.
Warm almost as summer evening.
Put hens in the hen house this mng 2 extras.
Sat. Nov. 15, 1902
9.30 PM A very warm and pleasant day.
The sun shone as in days long ago.
Light S. wind until 3 P.M. then a hard West or N.W. until evening.
Full moon and very warm and pleasant this evening.
Took super with Jones who came home from Williston with young cattle about 8 o’clock.
Painted inside of Watkins boat 2d time and bottom slats + seats, and screwed in the half round ribs. The cat got his tail caught in the door, while I was feeding the hens.
Sunday Nov. 16, 1902
Comfortable day.
At home all day. Expected Jones and wife for dinner at 1, but they had company + didn’t come till evening. Took supper with me and we had a very pleasant time.
Monday Nov 17
Another nice day. Wind N. but easy, went up in woodlot where Joe was chopping in A.M. Got mail (U.S.) for Chet + went to station after 1p.m. Jones this evening + got buttermilk. Boil on right cheekbone aches awfully.
Friday Nov 21, 1902
Warm + comfortable. Wind light + S. looked like rain all day. No rain.
Raytee thrashing buckwheat + oats. Lots of trouble + didn’t finish.
Threw a lot of small wood into shed, and put a heading to hatchway.
Called on Mrs. Tatro for oil as she didn’t send any can, Monday.
Having a hell of a time with boils on my face + neck. Three header on right cheekbone, and a big one on center of back of neck.
Went to L.H. after sundown and stayed all Wed. Night. Ruth put poultice on and she + Chet fixed me up good.
Yesterday was another fine day. I came to island to put shutters on Watkin's cottage but no nails, no hammer so had to defer the job. Chet fired gun 4 times. Thought he wanted me so went back again, shot at duck, lost him.
Came home in a fine breeze. Moses said cider is coming tomorrow night.
Party at Jones last night. I was there when it came. 13 in a number.
Violet was waiting for me when I got home. Has been gone about three week I guess. She stuck tight to me all day. But is not here now. Hope she won’t go away again.
Saturday Nov 22
Wind S. + pretty stiff.
Worked in hatchway nearly all day. Now ready to put in the steps.
Took off the door sawed off bottom and both sides + hung it all over. Repaired casing and made the whole thing over as it is as good as new.
Dance at Peter Cole's to night
Supper at Jones. Got milk and after the quiet time came Jones + I had a good talk on Theology etc and finally wound up by having a little lunch of biscuit and honey.
Violet was sick last night + I had to give her a meal in the back chamber.
Sunday Nov 23, 1902
Gale from N. W or West all day. Dropping now at 6pm. But I dare not start for the Station though I have quite a lot of mail. Haven’t done much. Got a hot dinner and washed dishes. That’s about all though I have been quite busy all day.
Much colder.
Snow on ground this mng and top half of Mt. Mansfield covered.
Monday Nov 24, 1902. 10 PM
S. Gale A.M easier P.M. and quite easy in Bay at P.M. but looked like a shift to W. or N.W. + I didn’t dare start out. Quite cool, but a good day to work. Working on hatchway again. Put stairs together and put them in place they are O.K. Wheeled more dirt to bank up under piazza. Mr. Goodspeed after apple cider keg again. Begin to think I am never going to get my apple cider.
Soaked out and made spigots for two 8 gal. kegs to put cider into if it ever does come. Air has been very damp all day but it hasn’t rained any.
Very dark night, light W. wind
Have lots of mail for the Station. Hope it will be good getting their tomorrow and back again.
Raytee + Joe flailing out the last of the oats. Called at Jones. Took supper. Pancake + very nice ones. Got pail buttermilk.
Here after, Buttermilk Mondays and skim milk Fridays. Evening sick, dysentery. Called at Hardy’s. Picking over beans. Going to buy a bushel for a dollar not picked over. Bruno on rampage. Adrian showed me his new hen-house and new pig-pen. The latter is a fine one and I wish I owned one just like it.
Sent Letter to Cass
Porter stole two pigs from Harry Thomas and had to carry them back and pay him about $30.00. Glad of it.
Sunday Nov 25 1902
Got up early and started for Station. N. wind. From Halls point a very light N.W. wind all the way to Station. Had to row.
Could have sailed back easily at once but while waiting for breakfast and letters wind veered to N. + blew so fresh I thought best to stay until next day.
Wed Nov 26-1902
Came home from L.H. in fair N wind and a snowstorm this side of the pass. First snow storm. 3 inches good. Lot of ducks near pass. Ruth not feeling first rate.
Have to go to the Red Barn every night between 5+6 P.M. & see the Beacon in the tower.
Check from U.S. for Tenders.
Went to Henry Thayer's.
Aunt Mary quite low. Can live only a very few days at most.
Card from Cass, Coming tomorrow.
Thur. Nov 27 Thanksgiving.
Rain + snow all day.
Made a big soup.
Rice Pudding, bake beans, gingerbread, Graham bread, + Biscuit bread.
Not feeling well today. My 4 mile row and 3 mile walk through snow + mud was pretty hard for me. + my back feels pretty bad today and tonight.
At Red Barn at 5:50. Light O.K. Clear. Cass + Burt Hines come at 5:15 + went away at 5:45 when I started for Red Barn. Cass coming in morning with dog + gun. Raytee will bring Paroid roofing tomorrow.
Fri Nov 28.
Cass came down about 10 a.m. dog + gun.
Aunt Mary died about 2 a.m.
Cold + windy didn’t do much but wait and picked out a few apples.
Had a bedfull to-night. Cass + dog and two cats. But we all slept well. Cold + windy all day.
Sat Nov 29.
Another gale from So. Washed dishes and straightened out the kitchen. A.M. and about 1:20 P.M. I went up to Uncle Reube’s; Cass went as far as Jerry’s.
Aunt Mary looks good as she lies in the casket.
Stopped at Hines as I came home. Alma gave me a nice large piece of mince pie and she + Bert asked me to stop for supper, But I had to hurry home to look for the signal light.
Cass came in with dog’s foot hurt and so couldn’t come down until morning.
Sunday, Nov 30.
9 P.M. Terrible old gale from west all A.M. and until 2 P.M. Wind then went down and if Cass had only been here would have started for L. H. at 8. But he isn’t home yet and I don’t expect him tonight.
Picked up flood wood, around farm and picked over the last of my apples in the kitchen. Have 7 or 8 barrels in all,and all Ben Davis. Saw the beacon clearly at 5:40 and went from there to Jones. Moses Bessett was there and I paid him 50 cents for getting cider (1 bbl) made. Took supper at Jones’ had a pleasant call + got home at 8:45.
This has been quite a comfortable day in spite of the wind and is quite warm this evening and no wind at all.
Another boil has started on my neck. This makes the third.
Hope it will be still in the morning so I can go to L.H.
