A lovely Sunny day.  Thawing just the least bit and no wind to speak of.

Sid came over with fish shanty just as I got up this morning.  Left it at landing for a few repairs.  Can buy it for $1.50 more.

Old tooth continues to aggravate me.  Boils improving.

Monday Feb. 2

11 P.M.  Almost thawing but damp cold air.  Cloudy and looking all day as if it was just ready to storm which it did this evening both snow and rain about ¾ inch.  It sticks to the ice however and makes easier traveling.

Mailed letter to Mrs. Button but was too late after all. Wrote last night until 2:30 this morning.

Not feeling well today.  Sawed a little wood + got some water.

Mrs. Jones came after me at dusk and I went over and have just got home.  Took supper of course.  Jones was away got home about 9:30.  He wanted to sell his hens to me, 32 + 3 Roosters.  I bought them + he is to deliver them and two bags of feed to-morrow.  Think I will also buy his potato hiller.  I may need it next spring.  Have lots to do to-morrow.

I had dinner nearly ready when he came back. Had chicken and fresh pork. potatoes, beef + biscuit.

Jones came and took my hog to the city. He + Sid + I put fish shanty on his sled and he drew it up + we put it on piazza, where it will be handy to fix. They came after Chet left.

Commenced to build partition between Jones’ house and mine.

Joe Bessett and Jimmie came after basket coal-sifter and two old umbrellas’ about 5 P.M

Jones and wife came at 10 pm with two bags of buckwheat for hens. Hens had no feed today.

Fair day, shining in the middle of the day.  Not much wind.

Washed out 3 towels and had just eaten dinner and commenced on a jumper when Chet came, we went to the Point, but floating ice was jammed in a quarter of a mile wide, so it was impossible to get farther.

Rec’d Mileage from Button, with request to go to tomorrow, but I can’t go until Thursday.  I have no key to my trunk + I don’t know hardly how I can arrange to fasten it.

Sat Feb 21

Home again with Chet. The cats were so glad so see me they nearly laughed in joy.

Unloaded trunk, built a fire to warm the house a little, and then we went to the Point.

We took rope, boat-hook, axes etc. and succeeded in getting within 25 or 30 rods of station. But decided that it would be imprudent to venture nearer, as there were several large open places in the ice very near and wind blowing very hard from S.

Pretty tired after my walk on the ice.

Called at Goodspeed’s this evening with presents for Doris, from Geenie  + Francis.

Sunday Feb 22

At home all day. Very cold. Read some and wrote to Cap'n + Mrs. Button.

Sat 28.

1 AM. Raining quite hard for half an hour past 11 pm. Jones got around to breakfast about 10 am. Fred Cross had agreed to help him through to Wolcott but went away to city + left him with no one to help. Young Lacy however volunteered and went with him.

A dozen head of cattle and a two horse team. Roads all ice and raining a good part of the day. Hard luck. Gave Lacy some breakfast also. Is coming to see me when he gets back.

 They left here about 11a.m.

Antoine Bessett called with almanac and calendar that Mrs. Jordan Ogle of Winooski sent to me by Jones yesterday with invitation to call and see them when convenient. Sid came to weigh hay. But wind and rain prevented.

Letter from Button authorizing me to make a survey of the swamp lot. Mrs. B has written to C + R.

About 5 pm hard gale or squall from W. of half hour duration. Since that time (now 11 pm) There has been there more and one is now blowing.

Returned Howard’s glass and sent Mrs. H half a dozen little Johnny cake jems.
