Did you know that approximately 300 people stay at Wake Robin? Did you know that there are nurses, doctors, cooks and administrative people who work there? Wake Robin is a non-profit corporation that operates a Life Care Retirement Community. Once someone moves into Wake Robin, they never have to move again! I would have never guessed that so many people were at Wake Robin!

Wake Robin was built in 1993, although it was formed in 1984. Residents enjoy 137 acres of land overlooking Lake Champlain in Shelburne, Vermont. Residents began living at Wake Robin in May of 1993.

Wake Robin is two stories high. It has clapboard siding and a hip roof with a gable. Its windows have a slip sill.

Many people who work at Wake Robin give their time to help others and they always keep a cheerful smile on their face!

The Arbors

If you know someone who has Alzheimer Disease and you want to help them, then bring them to the Arbors.

The Arbors is a place for people that have Alzheimer's disease. People with Alzheimer's disease forget things and aren't able to do a lot of things as they use to. It is kind of like when you were first born. There are people who work there 24 hours a day to provide care for the residents who live at the Arbors.

The same people who founded the Pillars, which is another facility for people who have special needs founded the Arbors. It has always been a facility for people with Alzheimer's disease.

There are three sections in the Arbors, but I only know two. One third is for the people who are very sick and the other third is for the people who aren't that sick. The Arbors is a long building with rather long wings. It is covered with clapboard and has a neat Gable roof. It has a box pediment cornice and the windows are called slip sill. There are a lot of windows; some are very large and tall. The main door is plain and it has an open porch.

Some of the things that the residents enjoy are the Barber and Beauty shop, TV room, housekeeping and much more. Sometimes children come and visit the residents and sing songs or do crafts with them. There are also beautifully landscaped outdoor areas for the residents to enjoy.

I really enjoyed visiting The Arbors because I could see that people with the Alzheimer's disease are being helped.

The Pillars

There are many interesting buildings in Shelburne and The Pillars is one of them. It is found on one of the most beautiful spots on Lake Champlain, Shelburne, Vermont.

The Pillars was built as a home for Mr. Morgan in 1911. He owned a lot more land then what the house has now. It used to have a guest house and a boathouse. Mr. Morgan owned a huge boat that had to be put in the water by railroad tracks.

The Pillars is 170 feet long and 40 feet wide. It has three stories. When it was built it was insulated with seaweed.

After Mr. Morgan owned the house Dr. Goldsborough died. Then someone bought the house and turned it into a retirement home and named it The Pillars. There are 36 rooms and 24 people live there.

The Pillars has a cross gable roof shape and the roof trim is boxed cornice with returns. The basement is exposed. The siding is clapboard. It has a beautiful portico porch.

Who knows, when you get older maybe you will want to go to the pillars to live!
