Adventurers
Parentlink: March 21st, 2003
We appreciate having the opportunity to
meet with Adventurers parents for conferences this week. We believe this is an
important practice to help maintain good communication between parents,
teachers, and students. If you have
any questions that were not answered at the conference, or if you have
suggestions for how we can make future conferences more informative, we hope you
will send us a note.
On Tuesday this week, Adventurers had the “Frogz”
companion workshop with local dancer Tracy Martin. Students worked with mask and
movement to explore how stories can be told without words and feeling can be
expressed with faces. Next Tuesday
we will have a follow up workshop with Tracy Martin.
On Wednesday Adventurers learned about Owls for our March ELF workshop. If you have not already heard about dissecting the Owl pellets, please be sure to ask. What was found in the pellet? How are owls’ eyes different from ours? How do owls eat their food? And to see some photos from the workshop on the Adventurer homepage goto: http://scsvt.org/TEAMS/ADVENT/Advent.htm
On Monday we learned the story of Saint Patrick from the year 400 AD and the story of Purim from the year 400 BC.
Also this week Maki taught us how to play Jan Ken (which is paper, rock, scissors in Japanese). She also helped us learn how to use chopsticks and we all practiced trying to get the popcorn into the jar.
This week Meredith taught us some of the ballet steps and McKinley taught us some Irish step dancing.
Kara filled the estimating jar with thread spools. It turned out that there were 400, which was many more than we expected. Debra came the closest with her estimate of 413 and she will fill it with something interesting for next week.
We have asked students not to bring trading cards to school (e.g. Yugio, Pokemon, etc). If your child owns these cards please remind her/him about this policy.
This morning we welcomed spring and talked about the vernal equinox. The ParentLink Homework activity for this weekend is to make a list of the signs of spring that can be observed this weekend and bring them in to share next week.
