Welcome
to Adventurers’ Parentlink message for Friday, May31th.
It’s been a busy week with the 1st/2nd grade
concert, the bookswap, and preparing
for the end of the year. On Tuesday
we continued our discussion about Memorial Day and about those who have made
sacrifices for their country.
On Wednesday we enjoyed the performance of our 1st and 2nd
graders in the concert and glad that so many parents were able to attend.
We had a wonderful day at Shelburne Farms on Thursday. We continued our
learning about erosion and the water cycle. Ask your child to tell you about
evaporation, precipitation, condensation, and erosion. Thanks to those who came
along to help out Kathleen Chein, Wendy Hallock, and Ellen Powell. We are always
so impressed with the high quality of programming, and the professional,
knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. Shelburne schools are not charged for the
programs at Shelburne Farms, but if no one objects, we would like to use some of
the remaining funds from this year’s Adventurers scholarship fund to send a
token of appreciation to our instructors at Shelburne Farms.
Thanks again to those families that have helped support the fund this
year to make sure that it is not a hardship for any Adventure family to support
our field trips.
On Monday morning the whole school will gather outside to sing together.
Each team has written a verse about themselves to a familiar melody. This should
be a fun event, but we’re sorry to say that parents are not invited to
observe.
Our last week of the school year is always full of special activities.
Next week is talent week, so please ask your child what day s/he is schedule for
and help her/him prepare for the performance.
Wednesday is “Clifford the big Red Dog” day and we encourage
students to bring in any Clifford books or related paraphernalia next week. On
Wednesday everyone should wear as much RED as possible and we’ll be doing some
special “Clifford” activities.
Usually we have an arts/crafts day, but this year the students requested
a science experiment day. If you would have the time or interest to run a
science station, please send us a reply. We also will continue our tradition of
an ice cream sundae day, and if you a blender and the enthusiasm to help make 40
sundaes, we would love to hear from you.
Next Friday is our big trip to the Montshire Museum in Norwich Vermont.
We will depart from school at 8:05 and return at 5:05.
We will need to know who will pick up your child at the time and how to
contact that person if our return time changes for any reason, so please return
the paper that your child will bring home or save some paperwork and send an
email reply. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately to be outside
for part of the day and brings a healthy morning snack, and a good lunch
(we’ll provide a snack for the ride home). I must confess that I have
misplaced the list of parents who have offered to chaperone, if you were
planning to join us for the day, please send us a reply and also let us know if
you would prefer to ride on the school bus with the students or with adults in
the minivan. This trip is funded by the PTO and gift-wrap sales from earlier
this year. Thanks to the PTO and
all those who have helped make it possible for us to take so many trips this
year.
Next week look for details about the sleepover on Tuesday, June 11th.
This is always a memorable highlight for the students, but of course it is
optional. If you have any concerns or questions about it, we hope you will
contact us. We’ll be asking
for some help with the breakfast on Wednesday morning (Day 180). We would still
like to hear from some volunteers to help with setup and cleanup for the family
picnic on June 11th. The
Pasackows have offered to bring a grill but we need at least one more.
Upcoming:
Montshire Museum: Friday, June 7th, 8:05 -
5:05
Adventurers Family/alumni Picnic: Tuesday, June 11th,
5:30-7:00
Sleepover: June 11th 7pm- 8AM (more
details to follow)
Please keep an eye out around your home for our
Accelerated Reader books from our classroom collection. We’ll be doing a full
inventory and updating the collection this summer, but it is a shame to have to
replace books that we have previously purchased.
