Parent Participation? We encourage parents to get involved and help out in the Adventurers classroom, either on a regular basis or as-needed. We welcome you in any capacity! Below are a few of the ways you can help our team. Please talk to either of us if you need more details, or if you want to find out where the need is greatest. Regular Involvement: * Reading helpers work with the children to help them improve their reading skills. This is a regular, on-going project (but we understand if you can't make it every week). Just like you read with your child at home, reading helpers help kids on a one-on-one basis, reading aloud, and sounding out words. This is about a one-hour a week commitment. *Parent Night Meetings: Adventurers have regular, monthly meetings to meet other families and talk about upcoming events and needs. These are potluck style (except for the first meeting) with childcare provided (bring a few dollars for the babysitter tip jar). Past evenings have included guest speakers on a variety of parenting topics (healthy foods, music lessons, summer camp options) and they are a fun way to get to know other families on the team. On-going projects: *Drivers/Chaperones for field trips: Adventurers like to get out of the classroom on a regular basis, and parent drivers make this possible. This year, our driver coordinator is ??????. Please speak with her regarding your availability for upcoming field trips, or to one of us. There are a few insurance details, so we need to have a form on file in the office, but we guarantee that these trips are a great way to meet other kids on the team, and see some great places, too! *Craft Fair: The PTO Craft Fair in early December is a great way to share your talents and help out the team. We'll be planning our items to sell, and having a workshop day this fall, and we'd love to have you join us. We try to do projects that the kids can really make, and it's a great way to help the team and the SCS community. Various PTO events: Throughout the year, the PTO sponsors several great projects, including the International Potluck dinner, a Fun Run, Wrapping Paper sales and the Craft Fair. All are designed to be enjoyable, short-term projects that build community and help our school continue to grow. You can speak to one of us about these events, or ask any parent involved in the PTO. Math Nights: Held twice a year, Math Night is a fun evening of math-related games, designed for your whole family. This is unique to Adventurers, and we find that younger and older siblings really love Math Night, too! This school year Math Nights are scheduled for Friday, November 9th and Friday, March 14th. We have a brief planning meeting in the fall, but need parents to assist during the event (we promise: no long division!). *Last week of School Events: The final week of school is a fun time on the Adventurers Team. Parents enjoy helping out at three separate morning events--field day, craft day, and milk shake day. Each one requires a few parents to help in and out of the classroom and it's a great way to see how the students have grown during the year. In addition, the last night of school is an optional Adventurers sleepover for the kids. While we don't need parents to spend the night, we do organize food to feed everyone in the morning before heading out the door for summer vacation. Sharing your specialty– our students are particularly interested and proud when a parent comes in and shares their knowledge, either work related, or a hobby. If some of these needs are of interest to you, let us know. We are always glad to have parents share their skills, talents and energy in the classroom!
