What is the
Adventures Homework policy?
First and second graders are
very busy in school during the day and we believe it is important to have play
time after school and get to bed on time. Therefore we do not generally assign
much homework.
We do encourage Adventurers families to make a
regular reading time. This should be a time to enjoy good books and is not
instructional. Students should use their reading skills and parents can support
them with challenging words, and enrich the reading process with discussion
about the story elements.
Everyday Math uses "homelinks" as a way to inform families of what
students are working on in math and to provide some follow-up practice to what
the students are working on in class. We encourage families to supplement
this with fun math games and activities, discussion of math concepts when there
are opportunities.
The ParentLink homework each week is an quick activity related to an
upcoming class activity. All students are expected to turn in the
assignment by Wednesday, so they can participate in the class activity. The task
is posted on the ParentLink and parents are asked to inform their child as the
students are not told about it in school. (This is an intentional incentive to
help make sure parents read the parentlink each week; See
ParentLink)
