Saving Tax Dollars and the Environment Through Electrical Conservation

The following provides information on a project that began in the fall of 2003 and finished in the fall of 2005 to conserve energy, reduce costs and help the environment.

The following shows the electricity savings achieved by SCS working with Paul Grover of Kilawatt Partners in Shelburne. Included are kWh savings, pounds of CO2 saved and cost savings. The school has spent nothing to achieve these savings ... as a matter of fact we are making money every month.

Coach Kilawatt uses sophisticated diagnostic equipment to figure out where the School is wasting electricity. He then works with the staff and administration to stop the waste. The Coach optimizes lighting levels and heat in the building so that we are more comfortable. Often the solution is simply to turn off appliances when they're not needed.

Not only is the School saving money, the environment benefits, too. In New England, every kilowatt of electricity that is generated dumps 1.17 pounds of CO2 into the air we breath. So we are taking direct action to reduce greenhouse gases that add to pollution and cause climate change.
