CONFLICTS AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION 6.20 NATURE OF CONFLICT:

Grades K-2, (5-8 year-olds)

Grades 3-5, (8-11 year-olds)

Grades 6-8, (11-14 year-olds)

Students analyze the nature of conflicts, how they have been or might be resolved, and how some have shaped the division in various times of their local community, Vermont, the United States, and the world. This is evident when students:

6.20 Nature of Conflict

· React in individual ways to conflict.

· Use discussion and compromise to resolve conflicts.

· Demonstrate an understanding of the tension between individuality and social conformity, and how that tension may lead to conflict.

· Identify and analyze how economic, gender, and cultural differences can contribute to conflicts, and propose ways to resolve such conflicts.

· Identify and analyze specific conflicts considering the conditions, motivations and actions that led to them and how they could have been resolved differently.

· Recognize specific conflicts for their impact, considering how some have shaped geographic divisions in times in their local community, Vermont, the United States, and locations world wide.

· Analyze the nature of conflicts.

· Discuss and understand resolutions to conflict.

· Identify and evaluate role of technology in contributing to conflict resolution.
