Physical Education K - 1 - 2
Curriculum
1. The Shelburne Community School Physical Education Program is designed to help the children learn to become skillfull movers while becoming physically fit. The program recognizes the need for children to exercise. This also recognizes the need to attain and maintain optimum health and fitness for living. We provide opportunities for children to develop their potential for physical movement in a variety of ways, not just within the rules of games. By challenging children to think, to operate creatively within limits of their own abilities, to solve problems, to share thoughtfully, and show consideration for others, our program can provide a meaningful experience to the total education of the student.
2. The Physical Education Curriculum has been designed to outline progression through the grade levels. Understanding developmental differences in children makes it necessary to have skills span more than one grade level. This curriculum guide shows both appropriate grade level skills and skills that developmentally span more than one age level.
3. As an outcome of our physical education program, the students understand that a physically educated person:
* Has learned skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities.
* Does participate regularly in physical activity.
* Knows the benefits from involvement in physical activities.
* Values physical activity and its contribution to a healthy lifestyle.
* Is physically fit.
