"It Takes a Village to Educate a Child"
How the Plan was Generated
The strategic plan was developed at the Shelburne Education SUMMIT held February 11,12, and 13, 1999 by a broad and diverse group of participants representing parents, educators, business, media, and taxpayers from Shelburne and the state of Vermont. It was facilitated by Shelburne resident Harry Hill of H.W. Hill Associates using his Unanimity Planning Process. The participants were:
| Diana Burritt | Megan Camp |
| Judy Christensen | Tom Clavelle |
| Jack Ewell | Mary Freeman |
| Val Gardner | Colleen Haag |
| Mickey Hirten | Chris Kapsalis |
| Sue Kiniry | Mary Kirkpatrick |
| Sue Kuntz | Kathy Leahy Goulette |
| Lynn McDonald | Kim Patten |
| Paul Perrault | Marge Petit |
| Bob MacNamara | Carol Smith |
| Barbara Snelling | David Southworth |
| Charles Usher | Alice Winn |
| Walter Nardelli |
An extensive preplanning effort occurred prior to the SUMMIT to get input from the community, school staff, and students to help prepare for a successful SUMMIT. The results from this preplanning and the Education SUMMIT, plus a profile of the participants, are contained in the Appendices of this plan.
